Elsewhere city night

Couple seen
Through a doorway cooking
Two unaware
Of another one looking

Hands in tandem
Both there working
Blind to the sight
Of a boy here lurking

One washes pots
As the other strains water
Father to the son
To the mother to the daughter

Bliss in the domestic
Of a love unthinking
As a ship across the street’s
Alone and sinking

Two together one
With no future uncertain
While here behind the veil
I imagine them a curtain.
